Make it a Movie Monday (9) The Disenchantments

This meme is a way to discuss the books that have made their way to film, or to talk about the books we wish would be made into a movie. You are open to talk about any book out there in any way that you want. For example: Who would you have play the leads in the movie? Who would direct? Animated or live action? Etc. For more info about how to include your own Make it a Movie Monday (MiaMM) on your blog, click here.

This week my meme will focus on The Disenchantments by Nina LaCour. This story about a road trip four friends are taking on their way to the rest of their lives has such inventive characters, I can’t help but try to imagine what they would be like in person. Perhaps the actors featured below would do my vision them some justice. Let me know if you agree with my selections!

Colby and Bev have a long-standing pact: graduate, hit the road with Bev’s band, and then spend the year wandering around Europe. But moments after the tour kicks off, Bev makes a shocking announcement: she’s abandoning their plans—and Colby—to go her own way in the fall.

But the show must go on and The Disenchantments weave through the Pacific Northwest, playing in small towns and dingy venues, while roadie-Colby struggles to deal with Bev’s already-growing distance and the most important question of all: what’s next?

Morris Award–finalist Nina LaCour draws together the beauty and influences of music and art to brilliantly capture a group of friends on the brink of the rest of their lives.

Jenna’s The Disenchantments Dream Cast:

Andrew GarfieldColby – Andrew Garfield
The main character. A groupie. The greatest male lead whose head I’ve had the honor of invading in quite some time.  Forget the fact that Andrew Garfield is soon to be The Amazing Spider-Man, he would be much better off as the honorary side-kick of the Disenchantments any day. Also, forget the fact that he’s going on 30. He looks more like a teenager anyway.

Taylor MomsenBev – Taylor Momsen
The lead singer of the Disenchantments and guitarist who probably really doesn’t even know how to play. Taylor Momsen is an actress, musician and model who portrayed the character of Jenny Humphrey on the CW television series Gossip Girl and Cindy Lou Who in How the Grinch Stole Christmas. She fronts the rock band The Pretty Reckless. Yup. Sounds like the perfect Bev to me. And I’m sure she’d be more than willing to chop her hair again for the part.

Kathryn PrescottMeg – Kathryn Prescott
Bass, with as many moods as the colors she dyes her hair. She is outgoing and unpredictable, but as dependable as the best of them. Kathryn is an actress best known for playing Emily Fitch on the teen drama television series Skins. Her very nature makes her perfect for the part.

Shay MitchellAlexa- Shay Mitchell
Drums. Flower girl and believer in fate and destiny. Persistent planner. Shay Mitchell stars in the ABC Family original series, Pretty Little Liars as Emily Fields. She has the look, but does she have the flower power?

Alexander GouldJasper – Alexander Gould
Tattoo artist. Never left his hometown. Longing to just get the heck outta there. Alexander is best known for his role as Shane Botwin on the Showtime TV series Weeds and for providing the voice of Nemo in Pixar’s Finding Nemo. Jasper is a tattoo artist, but he is also described as looking like an innocent 12-year old.

Woody HarrelsonUncle Pete – Woody Harrelson
Colby’s mother’s brother. Lends Colby and friends his beloved Melinda for their road trip. All right, all right. I may be influenced by the Hunger Games “Effect” right now, which may be influencing my decision on this one. But come on, LOOK at him. He’s got the right image, he’s an excellent actor. He could do it, and have fun with it, too. Just like he did with Haymitch in the Hunger Games.

Volkswagen Bus VWMelinda
She’s a beauty, isn’t she?
But is she worthy?
