Make it a Movie Monday (15) Crewel Buzz Tour + Giveaway!

This meme is a way to discuss the books that have made their way to film, or to talk about the books we wish would be made into a movie. You are open to talk about any book out there in any way that you want. For example: Who would you have play the leads in the movie? Who would direct? Animated or live action? Etc. For more info about how to include your own Make it a Movie Monday (MiaMM) on your blog, click here.

This week my meme will focus on CREWEL by Gennifer Albin as the first stop in the Pre-BEA Buzz Tour! I’m not going to say too much about the book now, since it won’t be released until the fall, but I HAVE had the opportunity to read it. I found Crewel to be the perfect combination of Lauren DeStefano’s Wither series, mixed with a bit of The Matrix, plus a sprinkling of elements from What Dreams May Come. My rating? 4.5 out of 5 stars. Yes, it’s THAT good! Be sure to check out my full review later this summer!

Incapable. Awkward. Artless.

That’s what the other girls whisper behind her back. But sixteen year-old Adelice Lewys has a secret: she wants to fail.

Gifted with the ability to weave time with matter, she’s exactly what the Guild is looking for, and in the world of Arras, being chosen as a Spinster is everything a girl could want. It means privilege, eternal beauty, and being something other than a secretary. It also means the power to embroider the very fabric of life. But if controlling what people eat, where they live and how many children they have is the price of having it all, Adelice isn’t interested.

Not that her feelings matter, because she slipped and wove a moment at testing, and they’re coming for her—tonight. Now she has one hour to eat her mom’s overcooked pot roast. One hour to listen to her sister’s academy gossip and laugh at her Dad’s stupid jokes. One hour to pretend everything’s okay. And one hour to escape.

Because once you become a Spinster, there’s no turning back.

Jenna’s Crewel Dream Cast:

Adelice Lewys – Bella Thorne
The main character. A very talented Spinster. Born October 8, 1997, Bella Thorne is best known for her role as  CeCe Jones on the Disney Channel original series Shake It Up!. She has appears in numerous other films and commercials since a very young age.

Amie Lewys – Madison Leisle
Adelice’s little sister. Too young to begin the testing of her talents, but excited about the “opportunity” none-the-less. Born June 2, 1999, Madison is most famous for her recurring role in the television shows, Ghost Whisperer and Grey’s Anatomy. She has also appeared in a number of independent films and short films.

jude-lawCormac Patton – Jude Law
Coventry Ambassador for the Guild and the Stream’s public image/”pretty boy”. Who doesn’t know Jude Law? Born December 29, 1972, Jude has appeared in countless highly successful films, most recently in the Sherlock Holmes series opposite of Robert Downey Jr. and in Martin Scorsese’s Hugo. He’s the perfect age. The perfect hotness… Oh, yeah…

Maela – Anjelica Huston
A high-ranked Spinster whose job it is to training the Eligibles. She has it out for Adelice for some reason… I was so torn between Anjelica Huston and Catherine Zeta-Jones for this role. Older or younger? How to place Maela’s age?? Eventually I chose the “who looks more evil?” route and went with Anjelica Huston, age 61.

Enora – Jessica Alba
A Spinster and assistant to the Creweler. Also Adelice’s mentor. Born April 28, 1981, Jessica has been in more flops than hits, but she has a way of looking both exotic and beautiful at the same time, so I picked her for the role of Enora. Jessica is best known for her roles in Sin City and Fantastic Four.

Erik – James Preston
A Guild officer and Maela’s “favorite attendant”. Born June 30, 1988 is still a relative “new-comer” to Hollywood. He has starred in the vampire TV series, The Gates, and will portray James Dean in the upcoming Joshua Tree, 1951: A Portrait of James Dean. He fits the description of Erik, from his fair hair to his overall build and stature.

Jost – Adam Gregory
A worker of “servant” status at the Coventry. The first person that Adelice meets and trusts. born December 28, 1987, Adam is best known for his roles in the Hannah Montana movie, 17 Again and the daily soap opera, The Bold and the Beautiful. While I cringe at his resume, I still can’t help but look into his eyes and see Jost. *swoon*

Pryanna – Keke Palmer
Another Spinster “hopeful” with whom Adelice’s life becomes tragically involved. Born August 26, 1993, Keke is a singer/actress who appears to be both exotic and exciting, I bet she could play Pryanna with finesse and flavor.

  1. I’ve had Crewel on my waiting-for list forever and I can’t wait to get my hands on it! It just sounds soo good. Great cast! Since I obviously haven’t read the book, I can’t agree or disagree on anyone, but it looks good to me. Especially “Jost” 😉 Yummy.
